MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

MSI is known for releasing several board variations based on the same chipset. The MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi is a variation on the more expensive MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wi-Fi motherboard.

It has the same stylish design as its pricier big brother, but it lacks the carbon-inspired decorations on the heatsinks. That’s not the only difference though.

In terms of performance, it seems like the MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi has an edge on higher-end boards. The powerful X570 chipset pairs exquisitely with AMD’s Ryzen 9 processors.

Supported Processors

Ryzen processors are popular among hardcore gamers, as they often outperform their competitors. The MSI X570 chipset rides this wave of popularity with an AMD AM4 socket.

With this AM4 socket, gamers can go with anything between the monstrous Ryzen 9 or as small as a Ryzen 3000 processor. It all depends on your budget, and we love this level of freedom.

RAM

This board comes with 4x DDR4 DIMM slots with a maximum system memory of 128GB. While this is an enormous number that will allow you to run any program without hassle, most people will be hard-pressed to max it out.

With its massive amounts of system memory, the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi kicks dust in the eyes of the beloved MSI B450M Gaming Plus motherboard

Peripherals

There are a good number of expansion options on this board. MSI gives you 6x SATA ports along with 2x M.2 slots to grow their range of storage devices.

The X570 chipset supports newer PCIe 4.0 slots, a great addition that will keep your board ready for future expansions.

Don’t worry, though. The PCIe 4.0 is fully backward compatible, so you won’t be forced to use the latest and most expensive graphics cards.

Graphics

The MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi supports AMD CrossFire, like the older MSI B250 PC Mate. Gamers hungry for powerful graphics can use 2x PCIe 4.0 slots to install dedicated graphics cards and bump their fidelity up a notch.

MSI has an NVidia SLI capable board with the MSI Z270 SLI motherboard that’s equally worth checking out.

Audio

There is nothing small, or dare we say “cheap,” about this board’s audio. The great Realtek ALC1220 codec charms us with its authentic HD sound across a range of 7.1 channels.

Aesthetics

This motherboard doesn’t have a garish color scheme, like we saw with the MSI Z270 Gaming Plus. It’s got a satin black, minimalistic design. There’s little in the form of distracting decorations which makes it easy to customize to your liking.

The inclusion of MSI Mystic Light will keep you occupied for hours. This extension helps you customize the onboard RGB headers in unique and exciting ways.

Conclusion

We were under the impression that the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi was without any real personality. But MSI proved us wrong.

The MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi promises to be future-proof without breaking the bank. That’s why we give this board our stamp of approval.

Customer Reviews

“The MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi is the best motherboard I have ever had. While I am no gamer, I like to tinker and tweak. This board is overkill for what I do, but it is my favorite.”

5/5 Stars

“The MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi works pretty well. The BIOS menu is easy to navigate. The only reason that I give it 3 stars instead of 4 stars is that the design of the M.2 cover is weird, and I don’t like it.”
