MSI B450i Gaming Plus AC (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

MSI didn’t create the B450i Gaming Plus AC to compete with the latest, most expensive motherboards. It lacks the hardcore features seen on the newer MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wi-Fi motherboard.

Despite this difference, this motherboard is an excellent option for your 3rd generation Ryzen processor.

Supported Processors

This motherboard supports 3rd generation Ryzen processors through the AM4 socket. What’s great is that this offers some backward compatibility. Users can pair it with a 1st or 2nd generation AM4 Ryzen CPU for some pleasing results.

RAM

This board comes with only 2x DDR4 DIMM slots that users can max out at 64GB of RAM. This amount makes it a competitive little beast, like an angry Jack Russel.

The MSI B450M Gaming Plus motherboard still holds on edge over it, though, with a whopping 128GB that’s difficult to beat.

Peripherals

MSI included 4x SATA ports with one M.2 slot to connect storage drives. As for USB connectivity, the 6x USB 3.1 ports and 4x USB 2.0 ports should be enough for most users.

This motherboard comes with standard LAN and audio, both managed by Realtek chips.

Graphics

The B450i Gaming Plus AC doesn’t support multiple graphics cards. This puts it a step behind something like the MSI B250 PC Mate which is fully SLI capable.

Aesthetics

Do you remember the dramatic color scheme on the MSI Z270 Gaming Plus? The tiny B450i motherboard doesn’t have any of that drama.

The small factor size is a great benefit, and there is something intrinsically pleasing about the way it’s laid out. The great thing about the size of the board is that it fits in practically any tower.

Conclusion

The MSI B450i Gaming Plus AC is a straightforward motherboard that lacks fancy features seen in more expensive offerings. It does what MSI intended it to do: performing well under pressure and looking stylish.

It delivers better overall performance than the MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC motherboard.
