MSI B150M Bazooka (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

The B150M has fewer features than its bigger brother, the powerful MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wi-Fi, albeit at a more reasonable price.

This pricing doesn’t mean that the B150M lacks in performance. Overclocking is an excellent option on the MSI B150M Bazooka, and performance-wise it comes with all the tools to make it a great, competitive motherboard.

It also has some stylish white highlights on an otherwise black board. We think this makes building your next computer easy since there aren’t any dramatic colors or design features to compete with.

Supported Processors

The MSI B150M supports Intel’s popular Skylake processors with the LGA 1151 socket. Anyone in the modding and DIY communities will be pleased to know that this board supports up to the latest 6th Generation Intel Core processors.

At such an affordable price, it offers users the chance to build a computer based on a fairly new Intel processor.

RAM

The small but powerful X150 Intel chipset gives us a maximum of 64GB RAM across 4x DDR4 DIMM slots. This RAM puts the B150M right up there with more gamer-orientated, robust motherboards, like the MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC.

Peripherals

MSI treated us with 6x USB 3.1 ports and another 6x USB 2.0 ports. The USB ports are easily enough to satisfy the average user’s needs.

As for connecting storage devices, MSI gave us 6x SATA ports to use. Unfortunately, unlike the MSI B250 PC Mate, there aren’t any M.2 ports for SSDs. The lack of these connections will certainly hamper this motherboard’s expandability with future devices.

If you plan to use an older keyboard or mouse, you’ll be happy with the 2x PS/2 ports included on this motherboard. These kinds of legacy ports are becoming increasingly rare, so we’re always happy when we see them crop up.

Graphics

Sadly the MSI B150M Bazooka doesn’t support multiple graphics card setups. Instead, you’ll have to use the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot to install a single, dedicated graphics card. While this isn’t a massive dealbreaker, we understand if it turns away the more power-hungry gamers.

If you want to use an Intel chip with integrated graphics–which is most of them these days–MSI gave us one HDMI and one DVI-D port to hook up your monitors.

For the user who simply must have a multiple graphics card rig, look at the popular MSI Z270 SLI motherboard. It’s SLI capable and is well worth checking out.

Audio

The B150M Bazooka comes with capable, but standard audio output. A Realtek ALC887 HD audio codec along with three audio jacks provide 7.1 channels with HD audio. The audio is pretty common and not the best that we’ve seen.

Aesthetics

We’re happy to know that MSI can produce motherboards in colors other than the lava-inspired MSI Z270 Gaming Plus. The Bazooka comes in a black and white color scheme that’s neutral enough to please most users.

Conclusion

The B150M Bazooka is a tiny motherboard that packs quite a punch. Even though it may be lacking some of the higher-end features found on other motherboards, it gets the job done.

If all you need is a motherboard with great overclocking ability, no fuss, at a reasonable price, look no further than the MSI B150M Bazooka.

Common questions about MSI B150M Bazooka motherboard

Will my i5 CPU get access to Turbo Boost on the MSI B150M Bazooka?

This motherboard supports Turbo Boost technology. Turbo Boost will be enabled automatically on any compatible Intel processor, such as the i5, as long as the temperature remains in range.

Does the MSI B150M Bazooka have onboard Wi-Fi?

The MSI B150M Bazooka does not have onboard Wi-Fi, but it has a Realtek-powered LAN chip for standard ethernet connectivity. If you need Wi-Fi, you can install a card in any of the PCIe slots.

What is the maximum RAM speed on the MSI B150M Bazooka?

The X150 chipset on this motherboard means that it supports RAM speeds of up to 2133MHz. Installing any RAM with speeds above this threshold will be inefficient as the added speed will only cut off.
