The Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi is one good-looking motherboard. It seems like the Gigabyte brand is trying to improve on the popular Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro

However, we’re firm believers in the adage “You shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken,” which left us a bit worried when this motherboard landed on our desk.

Is the new Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi simply a fad, or is it an improvement that should be welcomed with open arms?

Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi Motherboard (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

Aorus motherboards have earned loads of praise for their customizability and good looks. If you are a fan of the Aorus range, you’ll remember the beautiful Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming motherboard

The Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi motherboard has the same sexy looks as other motherboards in the Aorus range.

We’re happy to note that the Aorus Pro Wi-Fi has the same exceptional performance that we’ve come to expect from the Z390 chipset.

It supports the 8th and 9th generation Intel Core processors. Overclocking is easily managed with a clever system that allows users to adjust multiple settings at once.

At first glance, it seems like a capable motherboard.

Supported Processors

You don’t have to go with the latest 8th and 9th generation Intel Core processors. The flexible LGA 1151 socket, paired with the Z390 chipset, offers some of the best compatibility seen.

This motherboard also supports older Intel Core i5, i3, and Celeron processors, as long as they come in the LGA1151 socket.

Compatible motherboards mean that more people can buy and use them, which is always a plus. But we can’t help but wonder why you would want to install an older, limited CPU into one of the faster power-focussed boards.

If you’re going for performance, don’t hamper it by installing a sub-par processor. This motherboard runs like a well-oiled machine with the latest Intel i9 processor.

If you’re not a fan of Intel processors for any reason, head on over to our Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite review for an AMD-based Aorus motherboard.

Memory

Since we’re talking about performance, it’s essential to mention the high system memory cap on this motherboard. 4x DDR4 DIMM slots give you a massive 128GB of system memory.

This capacity makes the Aorus Pro Wi-Fi great value for money. You can add RAM as your budget grows, and you have a long way to go before you reach the limit.

Overclocking

The Z390 chipset is suitable for overclocking. This can be managed via the BIOS interface or the Windows app. Detailed instructions are freely available and make the process smooth for newcomers.

You also don’t have to worry about overheating your system. Gigabyte’s Smart Fan 5 software utility automatically keeps your system running cool. This software is handy if you plan on overclocking and not keeping an eye on every nuanced sensor reading for the rest of your life.

Peripherals

We now have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a welcome addition to the standard Aorus Pro. There’s plenty of peripheral support to allow you lots of expansion options.

We’re also happy to see that Gigabyte swapped the PS/2 connectors out for two additional USB ports. PS/2 devices are fast becoming outdated, and we don’t want to see a useless port on our motherboard.

As for audio quality, an impressive Realtek ALC1220-VB codec delivers spine-tingling HD-quality audio across 7 channels. The audio quality on this board is a big improvement over the older Z370 chipset motherboards.

Graphics

The Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi motherboard comes with one HDMI port for anyone that wants to use their Intel processors integrated graphics. This will, however, couple graphics to the CPU’s performance.

If you’re looking for powerful performance and higher FPS, install an external graphics card into one of the PCIe x16 slots.

You no longer have to go with the Gigabyte Z370XP SLI motherboard if you want to use more than one graphics card.

Gigabyte gives us options for multi-graphics card systems on this motherboard. Use either NVidia SLI or AMD CrossFire. Yes, this motherboard supports both, and this will make power users smile.

Aesthetics

This motherboard, like all other Aorus motherboards, looks good. Tune your RGB LEDs with the RGB Fusion 2.0 software for extra style and personality.

Conclusion

If Wi-Fi is a must-have in your next build, then the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro is perfect for you. If you can do without it, and you want a multi-graphics card computer, go for the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master. They’re both exceptional motherboards that deliver superb performance and beautiful looks with a decent set of features.
