Gigabyte B450 Aorus M Review

The Aorus B450 M, with optimized support for the 2nd generation of Ryzen processors, is a better option for gamers that don’t want to fork out for the more expensive X470 chipset.

Gigabyte B450 Aorus M (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

Over the years, Gigabyte has made an impression with their Aorus range of motherboards. The B450 Aorus M is the latest addition to this range, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The B450 M offers something for everyone. There’s exceptional overclocking, a fantastic 64GB of RAM, and even static RGB headers for us to customize.

However, if you wanted to push your AMD Ryzen CPU to its absolute limits, you’d be better off with something like the Gigabyte X570 Gaming X.

The Gigabyte B450 Aorus M motherboard is excellent for gaming. It comes with fewer features that typically end up increasing the price. Yet, we find it has enough valuable features and expansion options to keep your rig modern and competitive.

Supported Processors

The Aorus B450 M comes fully equipped with an AM4 socket to handle the latest of the second-generation AMD Ryzen processors. These CPUs enjoyed a 10% overall performance increase over the previous generation.

While 10% may not sound like much, this increase in capacity results in smoother and more competitive gameplay.

RAM

You’ll be happy to learn that the B450 Aorus M comes with 4x DDR4 DIMM slots. This leaves us ample room to install up to 128GB of system memory on this motherboard, so your computer won’t be slowing down any time soon.

Serious number-crunchers will love that the Aorus B450 M supports extreme overclocking memory speeds, although it’s considered overkill for most applications. It supports memory speeds of over 4600MHz.

That’s some lightning-fast performance on a fair-priced board, making its RAM capability as good as the more expensive Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite.

Peripherals

The B450 Aorus M comes with a good amount of features and peripheral support. DIY enthusiasts can use this to upgrade further and build their rig however they want.

The B450 Aorus M comes with 6x RAID supporting SATA ports. There’s only one M.2 connector which limits your options in terms of SSD storage.

There are fewer expansion slots than we would have liked, but for the price of this motherboard, it still provides users with decent expansion options. Gigabyte included 1x PCIe 3.0 x16, 1x PCIe 2.0 x16, and 1x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots.

Gigabyte provides us with a fair amount of USB ports. There are 2x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports, 6x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, and 6x USB 2.0 ports. The variety of USB ports makes compatibility with external devices a breeze.

Graphics

The Gigabyte B450 Aorus M is equipped with AMD Quad-GPU CrossFire and 2-Way AMD CrossFire support. Using multiple graphics cards makes all the difference by improving graphics fidelity and framerates.

If you want to use an AMD processor with integrated Vega graphics, you’ll be pleased to know that the motherboard has one HDMI port and one DVI-D port.

However, if you want to use Nvidia SLI instead, check out the Gigabyte Z370XP SLI motherboard as a great alternative.

Audio

The Gigabyte B450 Aorus M doesn’t come with the best audio codec out there. The Realtek ALC892 codec provides us with average but adequate HD audio across 7.1 channels. Gigabyte uses Japanese capacitors to improve the warm, natural quality of the sound. While most users won’t tell the difference, audiophiles are better off installing a dedicated sound card.

Aesthetics

The Gigabyte B450 Aorus M is a micro-ATX form factor motherboard that allows you to build a smaller rig. The overall design is neutral, meaning that it suits almost any color scheme.

The B450 M comes with several RGB headers for those who want to customize their rig with lights. You can spend hours tweaking your RGB lights with the excellent RGB Fusion 2.0.

Conclusion

There will always be gamers that don’t want a board bloated with features. If this is you, the Gigabyte B450 Auros M motherboard is a great option. This motherboard can handle gaming as any gaming board should. It also comes with some customization options.

If you fell in love with the B450 chipset, you may also love the Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite.
