Asus TUF Z370-Plus Gaming Motherboard (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

The ASUS brand has long been focused on the gaming industry. The TUF series has slowly been driven out of the spotlight with their other great motherboards, such as the Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero and the Asus Strix B350-F Gaming motherboards.

That all changed with the Asus TUF Z370-Plus. This motherboard strikes a delicate balance between features, price, and performance. This board is aimed at gamers on a budget, and it delivers in every aspect.

If you want an even stronger TUF series motherboard, you’ll love our ASUS TUF Z390-Plus Gaming review.

Designed around the Intel Coffee Lake processors, the Asus TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard supports Intel Socket 1151 9th and 8th Generation Intel Core processors.

It also supports Pentium Gold and Celeron Processors with the LGA 1151 socket.

Peripherals

The ASUS TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard has ample expansion options for even the most hardcore gamers. We are treated with:

  • 1x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 SafeSlot,
  • 1x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 slot (maxed at x4 mode),
  • 4x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x1 slots

Networking

While the ASUS TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard lacks onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it does have a single LAN port managed by a capable Intel I219-V Gigabit network chip.

This Intel LAN chip has the advantage of reducing your CPU overhead and offers significantly faster, smooth data transfers.

The LAN port is protected by ASUS’s military-grade signal-coupling technology. ASUS named this new technology “TUF LANGuard.” Premium surface-mounted capacitors protect against lightning strikes and dreaded static electricity.

Despite the lack of onboard Wi-Fi, the fantastic LAN socket makes networking with this motherboard straightforward.

Graphics

If you decide to go with one of Intel’s integrated graphics processors instead of an external graphics card, you’ll find a handy HDMI port, as well as a DVI connector for your video output. The HDMI port delivers a maximum resolution of 4096 x 2160 at 24Hz, while the DVI port provides a standard display of 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz.

The ASUS TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard supports AMD CrossFireX technology and truly shines with external graphics cards.

Audio

While it lacks the exceptional sound quality that we saw in our Asus Z170 Pro Gaming review, the Asus TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard comes equipped with a capable Realtek ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio Codec.

Asus included audio shielding, such as the TUF Gaming Audio Cover to preserve the integrity of audio signals. This results in laudable audio quality considering its price.

Included with the ASUS TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard is the DTS Custom onboard audio. DTS Custom Audio takes advantage of gaming headsets and takes audio to new frontiers.

This handy feature provides positional clues through stereo headphones to give you a distinct advantage in every game.

Aesthetics

The combination of one little glowing LED strip along the side of the motherboard and one RGB Header is appreciated. Along with the ASUS Aura software, this allows you a variety of functional presets to customize the lighting on this motherboard.

In an interesting twist, ASUS added yellow highlights to the otherwise black motherboard.

Conclusion

The ASUS TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard is standard, but it also has a standard price. This delicate balance between features and pricing is a good thing that a fair number of gamers and DIY enthusiasts will benefit from.

With some customization options, easy overclocking capability, and ample expansion slots, this motherboard is a solid choice for most gamers.

“I Love the Asus TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard. This is by far my favorite motherboard. The TUF Z370-Plus is elegant and serious-looking at the same time. 5/5 Stars

“I could only get 4.9GHz at 1.35V on the Asus TUF Z370-Plus Gaming motherboard. I wanted to push it further, but the board limited my overclocking with the 4 phases that heated the VRMS, causing instability. It could have worked well if I had an air cooler like the Noctura DH15 since the fans have passive cooling for the VRMS. This motherboard does the job, though.”
