H97M Pro4 Motherboard (Our Review)

Overall Assessment

Performance

The board supports 5th generation Intel processors with a 4+1 power phase and a Digi power design. These keep the CPU and RAM stable by monitoring and changing the voltage of the board.

Digi Power provides the CPU with power and maintains constant voltage in order to keep the board from overheating. The power phases do the same thing to all other components.

For a stronger power phase, we suggest the ASRock Z97 Extreme or the ASRock Z370 Extreme4 with 12+1 designs. Higher phases mean cleaner flow between the power supply and the CPU and increased overclocking capability.

Unique Features

The H97M Pro4 has a unique Premium Alloy Choke that reduces core loss by 70%. It is made of a Super Alloy and increases input and Vcore voltage.

Core voltage creates stability and widens the board’s overclocking range. Because of this, the H97M Pro4 has solid overclocking potential that gets the most out of your peripheral components.

Graphics

The H97M Pro4 lacks an onboard GPU, meaning you’ll have to buy a graphics card to support your monitor. There are two PCIe slots (1x PCIex4 V2; 1x PCIex16 V3) which makes choosing a compatible card a breeze.

Although it has an impressive selection of PCIe connectors, it lacks SLI capabilities like more advanced boards, such as the ASRock x370 Killer SLI/ac. This doesn’t mean that it’s no good for gaming, but it does somewhat limit your options.

Protection Features

The ASRock H97M Pro4 has full spike protection, keeping you safe from most electrical problems.

Five fan connectors keep everything running cool. Four of the fans are CPU and PSU fans, while the last one is a chassis connector.

Integrated Software

The H97M supports both the APP Shop and ASRock Cloud.

The APP Shop gives users access to a plethora of drivers and utilities for ASRock products. We all know how frustrating scouring the internet for that one audio driver can be. The ASRock APP shop aims to make that a thing of the past.

ASRock Cloud not only allocates users gigabytes of free cloud storage which frees up drive space, but also allows users to sync their mobile devices to their desktop. Using just one login, you can access your work files wherever you go.

Conclusion

This is a great motherboard for users who want access to high-level features without wanting to break the bank.

Customer Reviews

“The only thing I didn’t like about this motherboard is the lack of PCle slots. However, it’s very affordable for a micro-ATX board. There are also more DIMM slots in this model than others in its price range.”
