ASRock B450M Pro4 Review

Overall Assessment

Small but powerful, this new motherboard from AMD packs quite a punch. The new addition to the ASRock motherboard family proudly boasts dual-channel DDR4 memory technology. It has 4x DDR4 DIMM slots and excellent component compatibility for its size.

Supported Processors

This motherboard also supports the popular AMD AM4 Socket Ryzen™ 2000, 3000, and 5000 Series Desktop Processors. It has more than enough processing power to handle most gaming requirements. Overclocking on this board is also a fun experience that delivers rock-solid performance through a nice graphical user interface (GUI).

Peripherals

What about peripherals? It has 2x USB2 ports, 1x USB3 and even supports legacy connectors with a PS/2 port at the back. Perfect for all those gamers with old-school devices. Yes, there are even three audio ports included.

4x SATA ports and another 2x M.2 sockets will make sure that you never run out of storage space. This nifty motherboard also features the well-known AMD StoreMI technology. Not familiar with it?

This software tool combines the speed of your SSD with the capacity of your standard hard disk into a single, fast, easy-to-manage drive. In essence, it offers you the best of both worlds. This fantastic tool moves the data you access most to the faster SSD, giving you the best possible speeds at all times.

Graphics

As for graphics, the ASRock B450M Pro4 has 1x PCIe 3.0 x16, 1x PCIe 2.0 x16, 1x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots and comes complete with three types of the most used connectors out there. Yes, it is packed with a solid D-Sub, DVI-D, and HDMI Combo. Oh, did we mention that the HDMI supports 4K resolution?

Audio

This is probably the only area where the ASRock B450M lacks somewhat. The ASRock B450M Pro4 motherboard has standard audio, relying on the Realtek ALC892 codec with its 3 audio ports. It is good enough for most applications but falls short of the ALC1220 seen on most gaming motherboards.

Aesthetics

While some may consider this new ASRock motherboard to be a bit on the bland side, it more than makes up for it. It’s small and black with a fiberglass finish that lacks the distinguishing features of more expensive gaming motherboards.

Don’t forget, it comes with two RGB headers and a smart addressable LED header that suits all your LED coolers and lighting strips. This makes customizing and beautifying your new gaming rig a breeze.

The overall bland design is slightly made up for by having the RGB, and addressable LED  headers. Surely some flashing and dancing lights will help hide the bland design.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the ASRock B450M Pro4 motherboard is a fantastic mid-weight gaming motherboard, that is not only budget-friendly but certainly capable of a lot.
