Overall Assessment

ASRock is no stranger to gaming-ready, hardcore motherboards. With a prestigious track record like theirs, there’s no doubt they know what they’re doing. If you read our ASRock X370 Killer SLI/AC review, we’re sure you’ll agree.

The ASRock 970M Pro3 motherboard is no exception to this rule of excellence. Though less powerful than the popular ASRock H97M Pro 4, it’s still a good value, mid-weight motherboard with various features and expansion options to suit the gamer on a budget.

Supported Processors

The ASRock 970M Pro3 motherboard was built to harness the power of the 8-core AMD Socket AM3+ processors. This powerful AMD 970 chipset supports all AMD AM3+ or AM3 series chips.

Overclocking your CPU is straightforward with the bundled ASRock X-Boost Technology. This innovative auto-overclocking software allows gamers to overclock their CPUs with a push of a button.

Peripherals

In true ASRock tradition, the ASRock 970M Pro3 offers users more expansions and peripherals compared to other motherboards in the same price range.

With the 970M Pro3, you get 6 x SATA3 Ports, clocking in at the standard 6.0 Gb/s per port. The SATA ports also support RAID.

We were pleased to discover that this micro ATX motherboard has an impressive 10x USB 2.0 slots. Each USB 2.0 slot facilitates a data transfer rate of 480 Mb/s. ASRock also ensured that the ASRock 970M Pro3 is future-proof by adding 4x USB 3.0 slots.

USB 3.0 slots have 10 times the data transfer speeds of standard USB 2.0 slots. You don’t need to worry about backward compatibility as USB 3.0 is fully compatible with older USBs.

ASRock included a standard Realtek 8111E LAN chip that provides gamers with great connectivity without raising the price of the board.

Graphics

The ASRock 970M Pro3 motherboard doesn’t have any onboard graphics. However, this shouldn’t be a problem for most dedicated gamers and PC-builders.

ASRock included 2x PCIe x16 slots on this motherboard, making it more than capable of running the latest graphics cards.

To get even more out of your graphics experience, the ASRock 970M Pro3 supports AMD Crossfire connected to the 2x PCIe x16 slots.

Have you read our ASRock H110 PRO BTC+ review? It’s the leading ASRock motherboard in terms of the number of graphics card slots available.

Audio

Great audio isn’t just found on high-end motherboards anymore. ASRock uses ELNA audio capacitors instead of the traditional solid caps on the ASRock 970M Pro3 motherboard. ELNA audio caps have a leakage current of only 3µA, resulting in significantly reduced noise levels.

The 7.1 channel Realtek ALC892 audio chip will please even the pickiest of audiophiles.

Aesthetics

The ASRock 970M Pro3 offers a delicate balance between performance and features without breaking the bank. This mATX motherboard comes finished with sleek black and silver flourishes.

Customer Reviews

“I have been running the ASRock 970M Pro3 motherboard for years now, without any issues. It is a great motherboard, especially for those that still use DDR3 memory along with the AM3+ CPU socket. This motherboard was plug-and-play.”

“This has to be one of the best motherboards for an mATX gaming computer. My only complaint is that ASRock didn’t include many 4-pin fan headers, and the ones on the motherboard are awkwardly placed. I also couldn’t overclock my RAM beyond 1600MHz.”
